Shaded Area with Woodland Walk

Everyone has an area of their garden that isn’t used to it’s maximum potential. This is often a shady area sometimes surrounded by small trees and shrubs. This client in Holme-next-the-Sea wanted to make use of an overgrown area under several well established trees. The main brief we to create a low maintenance woodland walk area that could be enjoyed by visitors and owner alike.

BEFORE – Plenty of preparation. Raising the tree canopy to make way for a clear and safe path. Installing a semi-permeable membrane before topping with shingle, cockles and pebbles

AFTER – the woodland walk area is finished. We used a combination of recylced rubber (the purple chips in foreground) and shingle, pebbles and cockles. The seat in the distance looks out over the sand dunes. Sitting there, surrounded by shingle and cockle shells, gives the impression of being just yards from the sea.

AFTER – continuing with the seaside theme, an abandoned lobster cage is positioned between dune grasses and agapanthus. The branches removed from the trees to raise their canopies was used throughout the mark the borders of the path.
